Very true JD. I have sworn of paisas forever, plus their accent is terrible IMHO. |

Paisas are beautiful and are great people but with the most annoying accent followed by the rolo accent...
2 out of 3 ain't bad CB... |

I am sorry but I cannot stand that paisa accent, in men its annoying but in women is just plain unbearable. |
Why the heck does everybody keep dumping on the paisa accent? It's not our fault we sound sexy. Men from the rest of the country find us very alluring. _________________ El escritor escribe su libro para explicarse a sí mismo lo que no se puede explicar. - Garcia Marquez |

CB once said...have a paisa say something sexy in your ear and suddenly you'll love the accent...
Hell, if you're sexy and talking into my ear...you could stutter and I wouldn't care...hahahaha |

You have my vote. To me it sounds as if someone blended Italian and Spanish together. Melodious to my ears.. |

| Remember I am from California, I am used to listening to Mexican Spanish, which is horrid. I think anything sounds better than that. |

But the accent is nowhere as annoying as the Paisa one...
I think the most annoying accent is the Argentine one...it's like scratching nails across a chalkboard.
funny that to me Paisas and Argentinas are among the hottest women in Latin America.

My best friend is married to a guy from Argentina and had lived there for the past 2 years....she's acquired that accent . She was in Colombia at the end of the year too and everytime we got together I kept asking her to stop talking with that annoying accent.

Id have to disagree JD, to a certain extent at least, If you are living amongst people who have diferent words for everything and a different accent...Like colombians say FrIjoles and pretty much the rest of the spanish speaking world say frijOles, if you are not in colombia then why bother? It isnt a matter of character its being practical...I do agree with you when it comes to Katts friend whos only been in Argentina for 2 years. Im sure katt notices her friend might have picked the accent but when shes in argentina I bet EVERYONE notices shes colombian precisely because of her accent, i think is completely natural to pick something from the place youre living in...nothing to do with character. |

well of course...if she's Colombian and is in Argentina she should be easily picked out.
I'm sorry CK, but if one is an adult...learned their abc's and done with school and start taking on a totally alien accent...it's weak character and pretty ridiculous...
You sound like a clown... |

JD to a certain extent it's unavoidable.
My Canadian accent is all but gone but instantly comes back the moment I start talking to someone from there on the phone. This is a normal phenomenon and happens to just about everybody. _________________ Cada especie monógama se extingue. |

I agree with you CK. I practically have 2 accents one Santandereano and one Rolo. I can easily talk to a 100% rolo and he will think I am from Bogota, until a "Digame" o "usted si es mucho pingo" escapes and I am unveiled...hahahahahaha. (and this is within the same country I can't even imagine how it is to live in a different one that speak similar but still a different version of spanish
I also understand Rubi's POV. Is just a matter of me getting in the phone with my family for the accent and the slang to come back in a flash.
I am glad I live and think in a different language now, cuz it doesn't threaten my original accent at all, so when I go back to Colombia all I do is switch the language mode in my brain.
Poor friend of mine, got picked by everyone for that "new" accent of hers, good thing was that at the end of the conversation she was getting rid of it thou. |

hey...as long as you guys have no problem with it...why would I?
All I believe is that there is no need to take on another accent as an adult...to me it's indicative of one's personality...that's been my theory... |

it's totally normal to adopt certain intonations and sounds from wherever you're living. i picked up certain aussie elements to my speech when i lived there. it's inevitable... and of all the things i worry about, having a weak character isn't one of them! ;) |

I agree in the sense that ultimately your accent is up to you. If you pay attention to it you can make your accent whatever you want it to be. But that doesn't mean that keeping the same accent for your whole adult life is always the best option.
I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to blend in 100% anywhere. It's not like my physical appearance would ever blend me in anyways _________________ Cada especie monógama se extingue. |

In my case I think that in order to fit in I unconsciously start adapt my accent. Weather I'm in Georgia, New York, Cali,or DC I talk the language of the people.
I love hearing my Colombian peeps talk. I love all the distinct accents and it makes me miss Colombia. When, I read out loud se me sale lo Caleño. |
